Random Public Service Announcement
Ole Miss did not change their nickname. They are not the Ole Miss Black Bears. They are still the Ole Miss Rebels. They changed their mascot. Their mascot is the Rebel Black Bear.  I don’t root for the South Carolina Cockys. I root for the South Carolina Gamecocks. That’s the difference between a mascot and a nickname. Carry on.

Reason #873 why I can't root for the Red Sox:
The singular of Sox should be “sock,” not “Sox.”

Just remembered something
I’ve got a college degree. I’ve got a job in the field I studied in. I work at a television station. And, to top it off, I live on the goddamn beach.

Why Greg & Donny is Better than Pittsburgh Dad
Lately, I’ve seen a lot of my fellow Pittsburghers posting links to a web series on youtube called Pittsburgh Dad. While I enjoy a good display of Pittsburghese as much as the next guy, I feel like there’s a much better Pittsburghese-themed web series out there. That series, is called Greg and Donny.  Now, to be fair, Greg and Donny is technically set in Johnstown. But the accent of...

Buster. I love you. But what in the blue hell are you talking about? Bedard was signed to be one of the Bucs’ top two starters. This is what I was talking about when I said national writers don’t know jack shit about the Pirates.

“They made the unexplainable error of trading Jose Bautista.” (maybe because he blew while he was here) Just admit it, you haven’t watched a Pirates game since 1992 and have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.

Defending Ron Paul's "Honest Rape" comment
Yep, I’m gonna try and do that. At least listen to my reasoning before dismissing me as sexist. Let me preface this by saying that I’d categorize myself as pro-choice until the point of fetal viability, and pro-life after that. (Meaning, I’d like to see what’s the earliest a fetus could survive on its own outside the womb. I’m okay with aborting it up to that point....

Picture Rick Santorum as the President of the United States. Seriously. Picture Sweatervest McMelvin with his finger on the button. I just can’t do it.

doncoent: I was thinking recently about evolutionary levels of comedy. If Family Guy is a trilobite, then King of the Hill is a human being. The comedy of KOTH is really underrated in its subtlety and precision. As an example, I will dissect the “Sour Coach Sauers” bit from the episode entitled “Three…

The Media: America's Scapegoat
You know, one thing that has caught my attention as of late is the endless assault on the media. It comes from all sides. Democrats complain of Fox News being biased. Republicans complain of “the liberal media” being against them. Newt Gingrich even said recently that if he gets the nomination, he won’t participate in a debate against President Obama that is moderated by a...

U.S. Politics, a rant
The last couple weeks have really stoked my interest in politics, for a number of reasons. The Republican primary season has pushed issues of the day to the forefront, and President Obama gave his State of the Union address tonight. But all of these things coming about as of late have reminded me what I absolutely hate about politics. Politics, for many people, is about drawing a line in the sand...

Paterno's death raises questions about his legacy
With the death of Joe Paterno earlier today due to lung cancer, the Penn State community as a whole has mourned the loss of an icon of their school. To many, Joe Paterno was Penn State University. It’s almost appropriate that Paterno has died now. Many people would often joke that Paterno would be coaching for the Nittany Lions until he died. Now, just months after coaching his last game...

18 year-old me would be panicking right now
This move to Myrtle Beach has really tested my ability to make friends in a new place. So far, I’ve barely made any personal connections at work, and the online dating sites I’ve tried already have been pretty sparsely populated. If I’m going to actually spend my free time somewhere other than my apartment, it’s going to require a lot of work. If going to college had been...

I've been pretty lucky politically
Being in South Carolina during presidential primary season is pretty exciting. Since SC has one of the earliest primaries, it’s always very important in choosing one or both parties’ nominees. Pennsylvania doesn’t have that same luxury. When I lived there, the elections were always already decided by the time the state’s primary came around. But here in SC, you’ve...

My personal journey to my beach paradise, or, how...
Well the last couple weeks have been very eventful for me. In late December, I got a job offer from WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, SC. So I quickly packed all my things up and arrived here on the Grand Strand  a week ago Thursday night.  The next morning, I looked at an apartment. I was moving into it that night. It was very nice to be able to get all of that done so quickly. I was worried for a bit...
